Morning Feeding Tour:
During the course of this drive you will visit our caracals, lions, cheetahs, African wild dogs and leopards. Watch them being fed by our experienced guides and listen to their stories. The scenic route that takes you to our magnificent carnivores lends the opportunity of spotting some of the free-roaming reserve animals. This is not just a great way to learn about these amazing animals, it is also a unique up close photographic opportunity. A superb introduction to conservation and the work we do here at Harnas.
Sundowner:
Take a leisurely drive to a prime sundowner spot on our beautiful reserve. Namibian sunsets, with a refreshing drink in hand, are ALMOST unbeatable! Yes, the roar of our lions may add to the experience – making it a never-to-be-forgotten moment.
Cheetah Experience: Habituated cheetahs have lost their fear of humans – a fear that is crucial in elevating their survival chances in the wild. For this reason, some of the magnificent spotted sprinters at Harnas need to remain in captivity, having come to the sanctuary from various conflict situations at very young ages, requiring dedicated care to ensure their survival. At Harnas we fully nurture and encourage their natural behaviour, captivity resembling the life of their wild counterparts as closely as possible. Enjoy time with our habituated big cats, in the hands of an experienced and knowledgeable guide. Simply not to be missed! Baboon Experience:
Did you know that chacma baboons are officially classed as a pest in Namibia? As a result, these intelligent animals are often persecuted, resulting in many orphaned young baboons. At Harnas we take care of any and all wildlife deserving a second chance. Join our young baboons on a wonderful walk. Their antics and humour will definitely make your day (and your stay).
Ancient San Skills Academy:
This academy is a joint venture between the Harnas Foundation and the Nyae Nyae Conservancy. It aims to serve as a reciprocal training venture where visiting San groups from the Nyae Nyae Conservancy stay at Harnas to display their cultural heritage and skills to visitors. Take the opportunity to visit the San in their traditional village and witness their ancient culture and traditions first-hand. The San will show you plants they use for medicinal purposes, how they make fire and set traps, tell you how they hunt and regale you with stories, song and dance.
Ancient San Stories under the Stars :
Join the traditional San under Namibia’s starry skies. Your guide will take you to the Ancient San Skills Academy, where you will join the San around their evening fire and listen to stories and tales about the stars, animals, galaxies and the universe. Traditional dancing and singing will add to the revelry. This is a great way to experience the Namibian bush at night and share in the San’s traditions.
Hunting with the San:
This wonderful activity lets you follow in the footsteps of San hunters! Learn about tracking and hunting, and of course, any meat obtained (if it’s a lucky hunting day) goes back to the San community. Pre-bookings is Essential !
Night out with the San:
Experience the magic of the Namibian nights on this once-in- a-lifetime activity. Join the San Bushmen at our Ancient San Skills Academy and spend the night immersed in their traditions. Become part of their world and witness the song and dance that echoes underneath a canopy of stars, listen to their mythical stories, and sink into slumber just as they do. Pre-booking is essential!
